Maciek Jurkowski - Salvadore Side Chair

salvatore.jpg

Maciek Jurkowski created this piece the Salvatore side chair when he was commissioned to equip the cathedral in Kielce (Poland) with furniture and interior fittings. As a testament to his work, today, the Archbishop is seated on a high-backed version of the Salvatore and the rest in descending order, smaller versions (shown here) for the bishops and stools for the priests. Gorgeously upholstered and covered in gold leaf, is there any wonder they took a liking to it ?

Sitting pretty and looking like the perfect fairy tale princess’s throne is the Salvatore. Maciek Jurkowski has chosen to take a different approach to the legs as compared to the fairly standard ’straight’ leg configuration. The whimsical ‘bubbles’ making up each leg give it that unique touch and playful attitude looking like it was made for a doll house.

Tito Agnoli - Cubica Armchair

cubica-armchair-4.jpg

Tito Agnoli’s Cubica must be the ultimate in stackable luxury looking at the competition around. Boasting armrests swivelling rotatable armrests, it can be flattened completely and stacked flat, taking up a lot less space and making the common headache, transportation so much more convenient.

Consider the convenience of being able to set up some emergency reception seating for unexpected guests. Those uninvited visits from mom and dad to check in on you, no worries with the Cubica. When stored flat safely under your bed, it can be sprung up and after a light dusting , it’ll look like a permanent piece in your living room rather then something that did not even exist 5 minutes ago. Looking to host a party and need some modern hotel furniture to complete the look? Tito Agnoli’s creation will satisfy your needs and more. After all is done, it is easily dismantled and stored away ready for the next occasion it might be called upon.

Bottoni Shelf 2004 by Marcel Wanders

blacksofa.jpg

Marcel Wanders has managed to create something which is both timeless and functional. Twenty years down the road, me thinks it’ll be ranked up there along with the Barcelona and other classic furniture like the Thonet chair and Corbusier’s chaise longue.

Marcel Wanders has reached the pinnacle of minimalist design with the Bottoni Shelf. The blocky form just invites you to rest it with a no frills display of comfort. The indented shelving at the back is both adds to the design and is very functional. Long have I wished for something that was both good to look at and could fulfill all my needs. I believe that my long quest for excellence is now over.  I have found perfection for my modern reception seating needs.

The KU B009 Settee

Masterfully made by Laytrad UK;   The chair that good memories are made of.

The Memories
Safe from the blizzard outside, two figures snuggle in front of the roaring fire. Steam slowly rises from the kettle hanging over the fire bringing with it the slight scent of wildflowers, the sweetness of chamomile, the fresh tang of mint, and the soothing gentleness of chrysanthemum. The bodies snuggle closer as the comforting warmth of the flame washes over them, taking with it the pain, the weariness of life.

Just sitting on cold winter’s day. Resting on the settee passed down by the wife’s grandfather, a family heirloom that has seen three generations come and go. A permanent fixture in the house which no one could do without. The comforting memories of the a childhood spent lying on her mother’s lap as she sang a lullaby, the delight when she found her first pet, a spider hiding in between the looms.

IB Genesis by Gianni Rossetti

If your looking to make a deep impression on your guests, the IB Genesis is for you. Designed by Gianni Rossetti this fantastic “plushy” aka sofa is simply the real deal.

The legs are available in matt or gloss metal. I’d personally chose the gloss one, expect me to say something like “o.0 shinyy thing” *hugs. Curving inwards, the ends seem to want to encourage people to snuggle in, its like the perfect carebear sofa. So comfy, so plushy, so sooft. I shiver just thinking of it.

The fiery red color of the upholsery fires up the hot blood in me. It makes me wanna give away some serious luvving in front of a cheery fireplace. Gianni Rossetti’s passion for design is apparent in this delicious red sofa of his. If your looking for some reception area furniture, you know where to go to :P

Comfort–The Most Important Thing In Choosing Chairs

When, a group of top designers was asked to identify the biggest mistakes people in decorating they agreed an error often made is choosing style over comfort.

Guess what?  People want comfort! The most important thing that people want in a chair is comfort. Chairs should be padded and designed for comfort.

The idea is really simple. A chair, especially in dining room, should be designed for sitting. After all, during a formal dinner, it’s not unusual to spend multiple hours sitting at the dinner table.

Even when it’s just a few friends getting together for fish and chips and few beers, comfortable chairs are absolutely necessary. So, choosing chairs for your house or for your restaurant, the most important consideration should be comfort.

That doesn’t mean you should ignore style and flare, but it does mean that choosing a straight-backed chair with no padding is a big mistake.

Chairs with armrests are also a good idea.

When shopping for chairs, taking the time to get samples in or test them is imperative. Judging them based simply on look or worse yet, on price, is a mistake. For almost any décor, there are nice-looking chairs that also provide the things people look for in a seat.

Designed by Mies van der Rohe in colloboration with Lily Reich , for the World Expo in 1929, it’s sleek silver silouhuette with the iconic plush padded seats are an inspiration to creative designers even today, 78 years after its conception. It has come to the point where it is no longer considered furniture, it is the piece de resistance of the early 20th century, a piece of Art if you will.

The chair is a piece of commercial bistro furniture found only in the finest gentlemen clubs due to the high price and cost of materials. Suspended steel is welded and finished by buffing to achieve that seamless stainless steel frames that draws the eye. The full leather cushions are hand sewed and required a skilled worksmen twenty eight hours to finish. With such a high time costs, is it any wonder that it is priced at $9,100 for the finest stainless steel version.
