Bean Bag Chairs - Trendy or Pass??

When I mention the words bean bag chair, I get a funny look and the question, “Are they back in style?” My response is “Absolutely, but not the way you remember”. Bean bag chairs have come a long way since they were popular in the 1970’s or from their origin for that matter.

Originating in the 1960’s by an Italian designer, bean bag chairs were soon mass produced. Although much of the basic design is the same, bean bag chairs have been improved considerably making them great competition for conventional furniture.

Design

Bean bag chairs have gone through some major design changes over the years. The standard bean shape still exists but there are many more shapes to choose from depending on your decorating needs. Bean bag chairs come in round shapes which make great pillows but offer somewhat less back support than the bean shaped ones. The pancake chairs are great because they make a terrific body pillow, allow room for two and due to their firmness, double as an ottoman or coffee table. You can also find loveseats and sofas in the bean bag style. Read more »

Some tips for painting furniture

Painting furniture can be a fun and exciting way of providing a room with a new style and appearance. Although this work implies creativity and imagination, you might also need to know some basic tips in order to be able to actually make the picture you imagined real, or else the final result might be very different from what you had originally imagined.

Painting furniture, such as for example wood, implies some previous steps you should keep in mind before you start applying the paint. The first thing you should make sure of doing is to sand it using liquid sander or fine grit sandpaper until it looks even and smooth. During this process, it is advisable to wear a dust mask, goggles and gloves.

Once you have finished with the sanding step, you must clean the furniture as thoroughly as possible. If the piece of furniture you paint has any residual sawdust particles or dust, this will be an obstacle during the painting process and will be very noticeable after you finish the work. In order to clean it thoroughly, you should use a brush, a rag, or a vacuum, but never use water or even a wet rag since you need the piece of furniture to be completely dry for painting it. Office Furniture Manufacturers in Great Britain are facing more Challenges

After several years of healthy growth during the second half of the 1990s, the office furniture industry in Great Britain has entered a phase of stagnation or only modest growth. Most of the observed growth goes on account of higher prices. Sales in real-terms - that is after the elimination of the impact of inflation - are now approximately thirty percent lower than at the beginning of this century. We anticipate that growth this year and again next year will remain lacklustre and hover around the two percent range. If our predictions are correct, the market value will exceed for the first time the ?700 million mark this year.

Sales of filing cabinets and other office storage furniture fared particularly poorly. This is not surprising and a reflection of the continuing transition from paper-based offices to paperless offices. On the other hand, workstations and other system furniture, as well as office chairs have been performing better. In fact the market share of workstations and similar furniture is now close to one-half, while it was only in the forty percent range during the late 1990s.

What The Heck is Futon Furniture?

Futon furniture comes from the Japanese mattress that is used as a bed. The futon is a mattress that is about two or more inches thick that is placed on the floor. The mattress is filled with cotton stuffing. During the day the mattress is packed away. The American version of the futon comes from this Japanese concept, except the mattress in on a frame, which can be wood or metal. It appeared in America in the later 1960s and today is considered to be a space saving inexpensive piece of furniture.

Today, the American version of the futon comes in different shapes and sizes. The frames can be from five feet to seven feet wide. The futon is a chair or a sofa during the day and a bed when it is opened up at night. They come as either a bi-fold or a tri-fold. This refers to the number of times the mattress is folded or bent as the bed converts to a sofa. A bi-fold sleeper turns into a sofa by pulling up the back of the wood or metal frame. A tri-fold involves an extra fold and is a little more cumbersome to work with.
